A bit of a fraud
I heard that the waves over the last day have been from 25 to 40 feet high. I can't attest to this myself since I napped much of the day. I got some of the seas for which I was secretly hoping and didn't have anything worse happen to me than a need for an extended nap. I wondered if I didn't have the 03 deck sea legs to go with my bunk. But, I would still feel a bit of a fraud if I claimed to have crossed the Drake at its worst. Because we are off to the edge of the storm system, the sky remained sunny and we had beautiful weather for most of the time during these somewhat rough seas-at least as far as I am aware. Somehow, that just doesn't go along with my mental picture of the stormy Drake. So, we got enough of a sea to send me to bed for a bit but not quite enough to live up to the image of the worst, leaving me quite aware that I am crossing with the luxury of this big ship. But, a rumor going around is that one of my compatriots in wishing for a dramatic crossing actually did get sick. Maybe I am lucky after all.
Due to the slow crossing, estimated arrival at the drill sites is now mid-day Monday.
Best Wishes, Julia Smith Wellner
